Portrait - Lorraine VDS

With our busy lives, we finally managed to schedule a meeting with Lorraine. She comes over to my place with her dog, Cosimo, for coffee and a quick photo session. Lorraine is a friend I met 14 years ago. She has lived in Paris, Los Angeles, and moved to Milan a few years ago, which is where we reconnected.

When I first told her about my Modern Cowboy Club idea, she immediately approved and supported me throughout the brand's creation. It's no surprise; she embodies for me that very cowboy woman—independent, dressed in vintage Levi's jeans found here and there, too big for her. At her place, there's a western hat on the wall; she sometimes wears a belt with a buffalo buckle. In her free time, she goes hiking in the mountains and escapes to deserted beaches in Greece during the summer, always with 3 or 4 books in her bag.

In short, my friend Lorraine is amazing, and I wanted to photograph her because the entire collection suits her perfectly.

Who are you, in three words ?

I am Lorraine, a half French half Dutch girl who grew up in Saudi Arabia. My siblings call me the hopeless romantic. I would say I am a normal girl, with an once of weirdness.

A must-have item in your bag ?

I am not a bag person, but if I do take one, there’s always a book and a notepad in it. And my dog’s poopbags.

Last movie you saw ?

Perfect Days by Wim Wenders. This movie is a beautiful poem on the importance of finding joy in simple pleasures and nature with a beautiful message : happiness and sadness can coexist in life.

Do you think cowboys can live in the city ?

I think that anyone who can navigate the urban life chaos is a modern cowboy.

T-shirt or Shirt ?

Both.

Italia in one word ?

Emotions

The soundtrack of your life ?

The Four seasons, Vivaldi (the one by Nigel Kennedy)

Your icon.

My grandfather, Opa

What bores you ?

Social media.

Your recurring dream.

I am in my childhood garden, running barefoot in circles on the grass until I start flying over the city. It’s one of those dreams where you wake up with the feeling of actually flying.

What was your last meal ?

Probably an avocado toast, with feta cheese and a ton of Tabasco.

Your quiet space.

Anytime I put my headphones on, my apartment and my boyfriend’s arms.

Your character in one world.

I’m a dreamer.

To whom would you like to write a letter ?

To myself I think ?

A piece of art you want to steal.

The sound of silence.

Your drink.

Wine, always, and sometimes a spicy Moscow mule. But one drink that has never failed accompanying me is an infusion. I never go to bed without one.

Words you want to carve into a tree ?

Enjoy the ride.
